Santa Catalina Island, twenty-odd miles off Long Beach, appears in four Air Force UFO files the Pentagon released in October 2026. A family in Avalon counted ten lights in one evening in 1949 and wrote to Kenneth Arnold. Scouts on a summer hike in 1952 watched a silver craft turn and break apart. A sergeant in San Pedro tracked a purple light in 1953, and an Avalon resident saw a falling orange light in 1955. Investigators marked the last two as Jupiter and a probable meteor; the first two were never explained.
